Steve Wolf, Real Estate Broker and Wine Country Advisor, in a Sonoma etate vineyard

Steve Wolf

For more than fifty years, Steve Wolf has lived, worked, built, invested, and served in Sonoma Valley. Licensed in California real estate since 1985 and a Real Estate Broker since 1996, and is a Certified Seniors Professional (CSP). Steve has represented buyers and sellers in more than 400 residential transactions while also working extensively with commercial and industrial properties, land acquisitions, development projects, permitting, and infrastructure. His broad experience provides clients with insight that extends well beyond a traditional real estate transaction.

Today, Steve serves as a Broker Associate with Engel & Völkers Wine Country Group, based in the Sonoma Plaza office, and is part of Wolf & Gallagher, Wine Country Real Estate Advisors. Working alongside Alexis Gallagher, he helps clients buy, sell, invest, build, renovate, and evaluate opportunities throughout Sonoma and Napa Counties. Together, Steve and Alexis combine deep local knowledge, long-standing community relationships, modern marketing, technology, and highly personalized service.

Raised in Los Angeles, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, Steve developed an early appreciation for entrepreneurship, community involvement, and the built environment. While attending the University of Minnesota, he served as a buyer for Fox's, one of Minneapolis' premier menswear retailers, where he developed an appreciation for quality, craftsmanship, merchandising, and emerging trends.

Following college, Steve and his wife Gail spent three and a half years living in Munich, Germany, where Steve's entrepreneurial spirit flourished. While raising their young sons, Dane and Todd, he developed several business ventures, including designing and sourcing custom clothing for American servicemen stationed around Munich. During their years abroad, Steve and Gail traveled extensively across the continent, fostering a lifelong appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship, hospitality, culture, and the distinctive character of great places. These experiences would later influence both their personal lives and their approach to business, community, and stewardship.

Following the loss of Steve's younger brother, Steve and Gail returned to Minneapolis to be closer to family. They settled on a beautiful apple orchard property, where they lovingly restored a repurposed barn and welcomed their daughter, Heather. In 1974, Steve and Gail relocated their family to Sonoma County, long before the region became the internationally recognized destination it is today.

When Steve and Gail arrived in Sonoma County in 1974, Sonoma Valley was still primarily an agricultural community. Historic wineries such as Buena Vista Winery, Gundlach Bundschu Winery, and Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery had long been part of the Valley's heritage, while new vineyards, homes, and businesses were beginning to emerge. Steve recognized the region's potential early and spent the next five decades helping shape its growth through business ownership, real estate, development, community leadership, and civic service.

In 1976, Steve and Gail co-founded Sonoma Rental Center with Jim and Michelle Hanson. The business quickly became a valuable resource for contractors, homeowners, agricultural operations, and the growing winery community. Through their work, they developed lasting relationships throughout Sonoma Valley and gained a firsthand view of the region's evolution over the decades that followed.

As wineries increasingly became destinations for visitors, celebrations, and special events, Steve recognized another emerging opportunity and conceived the idea for Wine Country Party. Shortly thereafter, Steve transitioned into real estate, while Gail took the lead in building and growing the business. Under her leadership, Wine Country Party became one of Northern California's most respected hospitality and event rental companies and is today part of Bright Event Rentals.

His experience extends far beyond traditional real estate brokerage. Throughout his career, Steve has been actively involved in the acquisition, planning, permitting, development, and stewardship of numerous properties and projects throughout Sonoma Valley. His work has included serving as the buying agent for the land that became Cornerstone Sonoma and as a member of its development team, working with Sonoma County through permitting and entitlement processes, helping bring sewer infrastructure to the 8th Street East corridor, and developing projects such as Wolf Meadow Lane and other residential developments. Having personally designed, built, renovated, developed, bought, and sold properties throughout Wine Country, Steve brings a uniquely comprehensive perspective to every client relationship.

A lifelong builder, renovator, and property steward, Steve understands not only how to buy and sell real estate, but also how properties function, evolve, and create long-term value. His knowledge of construction, land use, permitting, infrastructure, and development allows him to help clients evaluate opportunities from multiple perspectives, whether they are purchasing an existing home, renovating a property, building from the ground up, investing in land, or preparing a property for sale.

Throughout his career, Steve has remained deeply committed to community service and civic engagement. He has served in leadership roles with numerous organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life throughout Sonoma Valley, including serving as President of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sonoma Valley Kiwanis Club, and as a Charter Member of the Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission. His involvement has also included planning and development initiatives, water and resource stewardship, housing and homelessness efforts, youth mentorship, arts organizations, and local charitable causes. Through decades of volunteer leadership and service, Steve has helped shape not only the physical growth of Sonoma Valley, but also the strength, character, and sense of community that make the Valley such a special place to live and work.

Together, Steve and Gail have spent decades cultivating extensive gardens and landscapes guided by a commitment to sustainability, pollinator support, soil health, water conservation, and responsible stewardship of the land.
