Hand-Painted Floral Tapestry on Silk Dupioni
A beautiful large scale textile artwork by American textile artist Barbara Beckmann, created using hand painted batik on luminous ivory silk dupioni.
Beckmann was known for her distinctive ability to merge fine art with textile design. Her work moved fluidly between the worlds of painting, decorative arts, and interior textiles, and she exhibited alongside important figures of the American art scene while maintaining close friendships with artists including Willem de Kooning and Andy Warhol.
This striking composition features a botanical arrangement outlined in gold batik resist and painted in rich multi colored tones across the natural texture of silk dupioni. The subtle slubs of the silk give the piece depth and movement, allowing the gold outlines and painted pigments to catch the light beautifully.
Rod pockets have been sewn at the top and bottom so the textile may be easily displayed as a wall tapestry or suspended artwork.
Large scale textile works by Beckmann are increasingly scarce, particularly examples suitable for architectural display such as this piece. The work offers both decorative presence and historical connection to one of the most respected textile artists of the late twentieth century.
A remarkable piece for collectors of textile art, interior designers, or admirers of Barbara Beckmann’s work.
